Bargain shopping: What is TEMU?

If you are anything like me , you are trying to cut costs and find creative ways to save money in this crazy economy. That usually starts with culling subscription services, finding ways to cut our phone bills or utilities and ways we can cut back on our food and grocery budget.

I've focused alot on cutting back on our food budget by posting videos of $5 meals and tips on how to save money by vacuum sealing, buying frozen veggies, stock up sales and digital coupons and even growing some of your own food. I've cut our food spending in half each month compared to what it was a year ago.

We've cut back on spending elsewhere by investing in a digital antenna and only using one streaming service. I also buy alot of gently used and sometimes new items at the thrift store. I also stop at lots of yard sales and tag sales in the warmer months. Kids clothes are pricey to only wear a few times!

I'm much pickier about which box stores I shop at and have started buying more than just food at our local wholesale club. I also find myself spending more money in Aldi because their food is good and much cheaper on many items.

You may have found yourself doing a lot of the same things and more.

But what about online shopping? More and more people are buying online because of convenience and price. Most people turn to Amazon but many have been upset about much higher prices and longer wait for delivery services that were once next day or shipped and received within 3 days. There are alternative online markets that are cheaper but are all of them legit? And what of the quality?

While browsing one of my childhood groups, someone shared a website I'd never heard before. TEMU. I checked out the site and was amazed. The prices seemed too good to be true and the items came from overseas (mostly China). Was it legit? I did some research by watching lots of videos and reading comments posted by happy customers. There were also many upset customers. Most of the bad reviews had to do with shipping and receiving times. I don't need to have everything tomorrow and don't mind waiting 10 days average for items.  I thought, why not? I'll make an order!

I was blown away by the selection of items and I liked that people left reviews with images. Just like on Amazon I could see if a product was worth buying to me. Just because the items were cheap, did not mean I needed to go crazy, however. I tried to add items I could use to my cart.

I found out TEMU has an office in Boston. They are a marketplace with tons of sellers competing to offer the best and lowest prices. They bypass the middle man because you are getting items directly from the warehouses in China and elsewhere. They have lightning deals and seasonal sales up to 90% off. And if you are a new user , they have a 30% coupon: fav79063 that you can use on their already low prices. Shipping is also free and trackable with an average of 10 days from shipped to received.

I placed an order . Then found more I liked and ended up placing 6 orders. I reeived each order within 10 days. While a few items I did not care for the quality, almost every item I purchased was similar if not the same as products I can find in places like Walmart, Amazon, 5 Below, Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, Dollar General and more for a fraction of the price.

The products from TEMU mostly come from China but some are listed as coming direct from the manufacturer in different locations.

I've saved a ton of money by purchasing some items from TEMU. I've mostly purchased kitchen gadgets and cleaning accessories but I've also purchased kids items, hair accessories, beauty products, crafts, tools and art supplies. I've only had a problem with 3 items where they either didn't work or were nothing like what was pictured.

The cons of TEMU? The site and app are highly addictive. You may find yourself filling your cart and purchasing too much if you aren't careful. If you are able to curb yourself you can get some amazing deals!

Also TEMU ran several ads during the superbowl and are using influencers to promote their product on Youtube, Intagram, Facebook and TikTok among other platforms.  So for the month of March, shipping was slower than usual due to TONS of orders they received.  They did give $5 credits for the slow shipping. This upset many new customers. So if waiting is not for you, you and TEMU might not be a good match.

I placed an order at the end of March and it was already packed and shipped in 2 days and within the USA in 4 days.

I've done several TEMU review and haul videos on my YouTube channel where I go into more detail about TEMU and you can see some of what I've received and how they work.

Don't forget about the first time order coupon code: fav79063 to get 30% off your entire purchase plus free shipping.

*I have become a TEMU affliate and may earn a commission from my coupon code being used. This costs you nothing.
